Welsh Biography (also known as The Dictionary of Welsh Biography) is delivered in partnership by The National Library of Wales and the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, and is supported by both the Cymmrodorion Society and the Learned Society of Wales.
These organisations recognise the national importance of this resource, but the continued development of Welsh Biography is dependent on additional financial support. Access to the website is available free of charge to ensure the widest possible access, but currently has no guaranteed income stream and does not receive grants in aid.
The articles are written on a voluntary basis, but considerable work is still required to commission, edit and digitise all the content. We are therefore mounting a fund-raising campaign to cover a proportion of our costs.
Your sponsorship of Welsh Biography would enable us to maintain and develop the resource, including:
Increase the number of articles on individuals from underrepresented groups, particularly women and people who are Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic
Improve coverage in fields such as business, science and sport
Further features of the website to meet the needs of users seeking information about Wales's past
We seek to raise £60,000 a year to appoint an officer dedicated to developing the resource and technical maintenance.
You will surely appreciate the value of this resource to the people of Wales, and we would be most grateful for any contribution you are able to make to its development. All sponsorship will of course be acknowledged on our website, at promotional events and through social media channels. Should you wish to discuss this we would be very happy to meet with you to explain our plans in more detail.
