Born 1891 at Port Talbot, he lived in later years at Llangynwyd, Maesteg, Glamorganshire. Beynon had boxed continuously from 1912 to 1928 and had, during that time, met the foremost boxers of Europe and America. His greatest achievement was in 1913, when he won the Lonsdale belt by defeating the famous Digger Stanley for the British bantam-weight title. Later in the same year, however, Stanley reversed the decision.
Beynon was killed in a colliery accident at Bryn, near Port Talbot, 20 July 1932.
