Born at Dolgelley, he was apprenticed to a carpenter and eventually worked at his trade in some of the larger houses of the neighbourhood, e.g. Nannau, Hengwrt, Dolserau, and Caerynwch. When he was about 13 years of age he came to know Thomas Edwards (Twm o'r Nant, 1739 - 1810), who was then at Bala. He wrote numerous poems on a variety of subjects, many of them dealing with local occurrences; they include englynion and about a dozen carols. His first publication, Diliau Meirion, appeared in 1853, followed next year by a second part; this latter has a preface by Griffith Griffiths (Gutyn Ebrill). His third published work, which appeared in 1855, bears the title Hanes Teithiau a Helyntion Meurig Ebrill gyda 'Diliau Meirion' o Ddolgellau i Gaerlleon-Gawr, Birkenhead, Llynlleifiad, a Manceinion, a'i ddychweliad yn ol drwy siroedd a threfydd Gogledd Cymru yn 1854-55. He died 26 September 1861.
