Born at Montgomery. He was the principal harpist at the Welshpool eisteddfod in 1824 and in the Cymmrodorion eisteddfod in London, 6 May 1829, when his skill on the pedal harp caused a sensation. He also appeared at the eisteddfod held in London in 1831. In Y Cymmrodor, i, Bardd Alaw (John Parry, 1776 - 1851), writing on the ' Cambrian Pedal Harp,' refers to him as follows: 'This harp will be introduced at the anniversary meeting of the Royal Cambrian Institution, on the 22 May next (1822), and played by a young musician of the name of Davies, who promises to become a first rate performer.'
