Born at Clydach (near Abergavenny) in June 1777. At eighteen (while living at Long-town,, Herefordshire), he began preaching; he afterwards kept school at Cwm-dŵr between Trecastle and Llandovery, and preached at Pentre-tŷ-gwyn and neighbouring chapels. In 1810 he was ordained pastor of Zoar, Merthyr Tydfil, and remained there till his death, 27 June 1833. He was a man of great ability; he published (1815) a notable sermon on the Doctrine of the Trinity, and wrote an account of the history of Zoar (not published till 1869); he was also a hymn-writer. Over and above his ministerial work, he was much in demand as a medical man, and is said to have been very much more highly remunerated in that capacity than he was as a minister.
