Edwin Poole was born 28 February 1851, at Oswestry. About 1866 he went to Brecon to work in the Brecon County Times office, but in 1889 he started the Brecon and Radnor Express, which he edited. He interested himself in the history of Brecon and of Brecknock, and published a number of books, of which the best-known are History of the Breconshire Charities (1880), Military Annals of the County of Brecknock (1885), The Illustrated History and Biography of Brecknockshire (1886), and John Penry (1893). He also brought out a short-lived but very useful antiquarian journal, Old Brecknock Chips (1886-8). He died 15 April 1895.
