Born at Dolgelley in 1749, youngest son of Hugh and Jane Pugh - he was, therefore, brother to David Pugh and John Pugh (1744 - 1799). He was at Dr. Conant's School in Truro, Cornwall, before he went, in 1768, to Exeter College, Oxford; he graduated in 1772. He was curate at Neston and perpetual curate of Lee Brockhurst, Salop, before he became vicar of Donnington, Lincolnshire (1794-1825). He is named frequently in the letters of Thomas Charles of Bala; he tried to persuade Charles not to leave the Church. As one of the executors of the will of his brother John he was able to comply with the applications of Thomas Charles for support for his Sunday schools and the British and Foreign Bible Society. He died 16 February 1825.
