Born at Pant y Gerddinen, Aberdare. He followed the occupations of farmer, auctioneer, and wool merchant. He won prizes for poems on the subjects of ' Goleuni ' and ' Pont Pontypridd '; at the Cardiff eisteddfod of 1834, he took the second prize for poems eulogising the marquis and marchioness of Bute. His last successful composition was on the subject of the marriage of William Williams, Aberpergwm. He also won several prizes as a vocalist. He died 20 June 1839 at Pant y Gerddinen.
