Name: William James
Date of birth: 1761
Date of death: 1845
Gender: Male
Occupation: minister (Congl.)
Area of activity: Religion
Author: Robert Thomas Jenkins

Born on Palm Sunday [15 March] 1761 at Abersŵn, Llanllwni, Carmarthenshire. He became a member of Rhyd-y-bont church and began preaching when he was young. He kept school at Glyn Tawe, and then (1785-89) went to 'Carmarthen' academy, which was at the time located in Swansea. He was ordained minister of the churches of Watford and of Trinity, Cardiff, and lived at Ysguborwen farm. About 1826 he was persuaded to move to the town, relinquishing Watford and his farm. He died 26 February 1845, aged 84. His ministry showed little sign of success - the reason probably being that his sermons were exceptionally long, ranging from an hour and a half to two and a half hours.
